Where mobility becomes a seamless extension of home and everyday life.
Car as a Living Extension reimagines autonomous vehicles as an integrated part of everyday living rather than isolated transportation tools. By synchronizing home and vehicle systems, the car transforms into a flexible mobile space that supports work, rest, and daily routines—adapting lighting, climate, information, and spatial functions based on user context. Through seamless transitions across home, travel, and destination, the project explores a future where mobility becomes a continuous living experience, blending comfort, productivity, and emotional continuity into a single flow.
problem
As autonomous driving advances, vehicles remain largely treated as isolated transportation tools, failing to support people’s growing needs for seamless transitions between home, work, and daily life—especially in remote and hybrid living contexts.
solution
Create a home–vehicle integrated living system that transforms the autonomous car into a flexible extension of the home, enabling continuous spatial, emotional, and workflow continuity across daily routines.
How might we design an autonomous vehicle as a seamless extension of the home, enabling people to move fluidly between living, working, and traveling without breaking their daily rhythms or sense of comfort?

This project explores how soft robotics can assist in post-disaster search and rescue operations.Deployed from a carrier vehicle with retractable tracks, these robots are lightweight, flexible, and capable of adapting to unstable terrain. The system demonstrates how bio-inspired design and distributed deployment strategies can enhance future emergency response scenarios.

Opportunity Map
Based on users’ frequency of handling tasks on the move, the complexity of shifting roles, and their expectations for privacy, we identified a set of key opportunity areas to guide the design of future mobility spaces as an extension of the home.
03 IDEATION
To better translate the idea of extending home functions into tangible spatial experiences, we further analyzed the design principles for both the vehicle’s interior and exterior. These principles guide the sketching phase by ensuring systematic expression of functions, ambience, and connectivity.
